…………..Semper engages the tectonic property of the screen or textile element in the caribbean hut as a manner of thinking about building. His view of the primacy of weaving seems to endow the surface of the screen with a life of its own. This theory of cladding is, in essence, a theory of ornament……In his description of the caribbean hut Semper pointed out that the screen which defines the space enclosure is discrete from the structure……..even where load bearing masonry itself is inscribed or decorated with ornament, the actual ornamentation is a sort of ‘annihilation of reality’ and meant to be read as symbolically separate………..
………….Gaudí, aunque no es surrealista, comparte una vinculación con Dalí en la ruptura con lo convencional………..En el año 1933 Dalí dio a conocer a Gaudí a los surrealistas en un artículo titulado ‘Sobre la belleza aterradora y comestible de la arquitectura Modern Style’, en el que exaltaba a Gaudí considerándolo 'una revolución sin precedentes del sentimiento de originalidad'…………La imaginación de Gaudí coincide con el ideal de Dalí de una arquitectura creadora, 'que proporcione máquinas para soñar y que potencie el funcionamiento de los deseos'. Una arquitectura, 'no sólo para habitar, sino para despertar la imaginación'…………..El objeto surrealista es un objeto creado para materializar fantasías delirantes, desafiando su utilidad práctica y la lógica racional. El arte surrealista se conecta con el simulacro al usar lo irracional, lo onírico y el subconsciente para cuestionar y subvertir la realidad establecida, creando sus propios simulacros/reemplazos de la realidad misma o representaciones que difuminan la distinción entre lo real y lo irreal……….
